Hybrid Logos

My art II students did this as a short graphic design project. It took them about two 1.5 hr classes to do the whole thing. They had to come up with 3 sketches combining 3 current famous logos to create a new "hybrid."

Value Utensils

To practice value, I had my students draw and shade my kitchen utensils. Hubby did ask where the spatula was during this week. These are 8th and 9th graders, Art I. I was so proud. Last semester teaching value was a huge challenge. But this semester my kids seemed to get it!!!

Celebrity-Half Challenge

For this project my students had been practicing value for a while, and before we did a self-portrait I wanted them to practice on another face. I could not believe the results! This is  8th/9th graders. They were so proud of themselves, and I think they were excited to understand value. Each student picked a celebrity and I printed it out on an 8x10.  They had to fold it down the middle of the celebrity's face (not down the middle of the paper, due to head tilts, and unsquare photography). I may let them do this again!!

*some are repeats because the lighting was tough to capture all of the detail. Sometimes the flash would reflect off the heavy pencil.

Vegas inspired!

Hubby and I went to Vegas for Spring Break (perks of being a teacher!). To get psyched I had my students do one of my favorite projects- a self-portrait playing card.

Japanese Koi

I am pretty proud of myself. Normally for lesson plans I borrow from blogs, magazines, websites, etc. While koi fish are a coomon subject for artist, I feel like I had fairly original take on this project!
Students first practiced drawing the koo fish and learned about the symbolism of the fish. Then, they drew them on watercolor paper and drew 4 verticle lines top to bottom. Students then painted each vertical section with either warm or cool colors and in the next did the opposite color scheme. I LOVE THE RESULTS!

Continuous Contour Sign Language

Last semester my Art I's did a similar assignment, that I wanted to switch up a little bit for this semester. Here is last semester's examples, and here is this semester's:

Continuous Contour Shoes

First we discussed how many different lines there are. Then I explained that a continuous contour line drawing is a single line that creates a whole image. I let hem pick something for me to draw on the boars as an example(ice cream one, dog). Then the students practiced random objects around the room- crayon, computer, flowers. I then tell them to take off their shoe and put it on thetable in front of them. Theirgoal is to draw as much detail in their shoe filling up a half sheet of paper. They can use as many sheets as they need. Once they are happy with their shoe the use a light table or window to trace their origi.al shoe 4 times. Outline with sharpie. Paint with watercolor.
