For this project my students had been practicing value for a while, and before we did a self-portrait I wanted them to practice on another face. I could not believe the results! This is 8th/9th graders. They were so proud of themselves, and I think they were excited to understand value. Each student picked a celebrity and I printed it out on an 8x10. They had to fold it down the middle of the celebrity's face (not down the middle of the paper, due to head tilts, and unsquare photography). I may let them do this again!!

did you have the students turn the paper upside down when they worked on the pictures? I know the art teacher at our school has the kids bring in pictures of themselves and do the same thing but they work on the picture upside down and they come out beautifully. it's interesting.
