Silk Screen- Current Project
While I am on a blogging benge, I might as well post my current art II project: Silk-Screen! I inherited brand new silk-screens and was nercous about using them/putting them together, but I pulled the trigger this past week and had an ag student (agriculture/woodshop savvy) help assemble the screens. They then edited a photo to be high contrast at http://www.picnik.com/, printed it out, and traced it onto contact paper in sharpie. They had to make sure all of the white sections touched. Then, exacto knife them out. The contact paper is then put inside the screen with the stick part attaching to the screen I made contact paper be oversized so that there would be no leakage. Then they flipped the screen over and used a paintbrush and with school glue, painted all of the areas under the contact paper so there would be no leaks. Do not skip this step!! It saved me:-) Then with block printing speedball ink the students pulled the color with the squeege over the contact paperand WAHLA- a beautiful print. They could do as many as they wanted (about 4). Would definatley work on a tshirt. I have some still working/doing a second one after they saw how it worked. I was amazed at how cool/easy it was. I don't know why I waited so long!
Andy Warhol -Pop-Art Animals
If you haven't noticed...I haven't posted in a long time, but I have been taking pics. The problem was I didn't have the time to "transfer" the pictures from my school computer to home, so I could blog. In the mean time discovered the wonderful world of picasa. I didn't realize how easy it was to use! So today I am trying to catch up. Sorry to over load you!! But better all at once then not at all!
Students had a posterized image of an animal they saved and edited at http://www.picnik.com/. Then with a grid drawing transferred it four times (light table would come in handy). Really cool results. Took about a week of 1.5 hour blocks.
Value Utensils
To practice value, I had my students draw and shade my kitchen utensils. Hubby did ask where the spatula was during this week. These are 8th and 9th graders, Art I. I was so proud. Last semester teaching value was a huge challenge. But this semester my kids seemed to get it!!!
Oil Pastel/Water Color Fun
For my art two students (mostly 9th graders) I decided to let them pick two different compositions to do watercolor on one and oil pastel on the other to practice different techniques. The water color had to be some sort of architecture and the oil pastel had to be an animal or flower. Here are the results!
Celebrity-Half Challenge
For this project my students had been practicing value for a while, and before we did a self-portrait I wanted them to practice on another face. I could not believe the results! This is 8th/9th graders. They were so proud of themselves, and I think they were excited to understand value. Each student picked a celebrity and I printed it out on an 8x10. They had to fold it down the middle of the celebrity's face (not down the middle of the paper, due to head tilts, and unsquare photography). I may let them do this again!!
*some are repeats because the lighting was tough to capture all of the detail. Sometimes the flash would reflect off the heavy pencil.
Vegas inspired!
Hubby and I went to Vegas for Spring Break (perks of being a teacher!). To get psyched I had my students do one of my favorite projects- a self-portrait playing card.
